Local Channel 6 news had an interesting segment on the other day. The segment started with a gentleman talking about his new home. He bought an old farmhouse with the original vintage kitchen. When moving in he found there was a "problem with the kitchen". His plates did not fit in the cabinets? The problem is not the kitchen; the problem is the current PLATE SIZE. Watching the segment reminded me of how the nations health has gone down the tubes. Not that I needed the reminder, but the stats really put it in perspective:
An interesting, but obvious solution: Portion Control !! Average plate sizes have increased 4" in the last 70yrs! Did your parents teach you to eat everything off your plate? Well that practice and tradition was decent with the old 8" plate. Not so much, now that the average plate is 12". That's an increase of 12+ square inches. I'm not telling you to waste food on your plate, but don't fill the thing up! Smaller portions equals a smaller waist. It is (almost)never too late to start shrinking up the portions and shaping up the body. Make an effort to stay off the statistics list above. Eating right is half the battle. Diets are a set up for failure. There are some great examples of good eating habits on the nutrition tab above. The internet is an excellent personal trainer and fitness resource! There are great sites out there for ideas and fitness programs. Stop the excuses and get started on a better lifestyle. Everything that is advertised on the site has been used and recommended by one or more of the members of our club. The majority of the members are firefighters by trade, so we also try to find the best value! Recently we have been ordering bells from a local vendor at a great price, and they are solid cast iron!
